Message from the Executive Director
Spring is in the air! It’s a time to refresh and renew. We will start to smell fresh paint, flowers, and compost fertilizer wafting through the campus. The work that our Facilities Management folks perform to make this campus beautiful, including all of the behind-the-scenes work, is truly appreciated. We continue to receive many compliments for the professionalism, dedication, and expertise they demonstrate each day.
It has been a little over one year since I started here at the University of Evansville, and looking in the rear-view mirror, we have accomplished a lot together. A few examples include establishing standardized uniforms, department gatherings including our inaugural cornhole championships (congratulations David Sellers and Andy Bullock), the implementation of our new Computerized Maintenance Management System (Brightly), and the countless number of work orders and projects. It is truly an exciting time to be here at UE. Our enrollment numbers are encouraging, many vacancies in our department have been filled, and we have successfully navigated through various events, challenges, and other distractions that came our way.
We have many great employees in this department, all well-deserving of the praise and compliments they receive. Highlighted in this edition is the annual Facilities Management Employee of the Year, Jake Oberhausen. He was recognized for his exemplary performance throughout the year. Keep up the great work, Jake, and thank you for representing us so well!
After working in facilities departments for the past 20 years, it has become very clear to me that this profession attracts those who are great at making the best of challenging situations and who always rise to the occasion when things are difficult. These jobs require a lot of problem solving, innovative thinking, good humor, and a strong desire to make positive things happen. I want to thank you all for making UE a great place to work. It has made my transition to this community easy.
Sincerely,
Mike Averett
Executive Director, Office of Facilities Management
