Fellow Scholars Program

The University of Evansville Fellow Scholars Program is a comprehensive program that allows underrepresented students to attend the University as a cohort group. The Fellow Scholars program is guided by 4 basic pillars for success:

  1. Provide the Fellow Scholars with financial and academic support.
  2. Provide opportunities for Fellow Scholars to better understand their own culture and history as well as appreciate different cultures and other diverse populations.
  3. Help students to gain and demonstrate self-advocacy skills necessary to achieve desired academic and career goals.
  4. Help students to utilize campus resources and become socially engaged on campus.

The Fellow Scholars are required to take a Social Engagement course their first semester at the University of Evansville, the Discovery 101 course their first academic year, and volunteer 2 hours per week at the Diversity Resource Center. The Fellow Scholars are also assigned an Academic Coach and a Mentor to help with their transition from high school to university life in their first year.

Fellow Scholars Mentoring Program

The University of Evansville Fellow Scholars Mentoring Program is unique. Upon entering UE in the fall semester of their first year, students are assigned a mentor. The mentor is then asked to better help the student to acclimate to the culture of living in Southern Indiana and attending a predominately white institution. The mentor engages the student through community and campus events.

The Fellow Scholars Mentoring Program helps students as they embark on a life-changing journey to feel supported by others. This is an opportunity to have another person in their lives that can offer advice about their education, career, or personal life. Mentors provide guidance and support in an informal or formal way.
