I am so proud to be the first-generation college graduate with a Bachelor of Science in my family. Even though it didn't happen for me at the traditional college age, I had the pleasure of telling my 79-year-old parents that I am now a college graduate!

It was so evident, the value of world-class education that my daughter was receiving after she began her academic career at UE as a freshman. After watching her grow in her mindset and expanding her horizons through her sociology/anthropology program, I decided it was my turn. Why not? I discovered that UE offered the perfect blend of in-class and online courses that fit into my full–time work schedule. It was a leap of faith to jump back into school, but it was the best decision. So much so, that I didn't stop with my bachelor degree's, but will graduate in May with a Master of Science in leadership in May 2021. I love to see my parents and my kids so proud of me!

College was all foreign ground for me. Because I had not seen a path before me pursuing this academic achievement, I was figuring it all out as I went along. Both my parents are so hard-working and have always wanted this for me.

From my advisor with the Center of Advancement in Learning to the Office of Student Financial Services, I have felt this was possible from the very beginning. Each of my professors made it clear that they understood that we were adult students with full lives and catered our education accordingly. It was still very challenging, but not to the point of feeling impossible. I enjoyed two classes that helped me adapt as a first -gen student and adult learner.
