Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre–Technical Director and Production Manager

The University of Evansville Department of Theatre seeks qualified applicants to fill the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre–Technical Director and Production Manager (August 1, 2025, through May 31, 2026).  The candidate will be eligible for a subsequent search to fill an Assistant Professor position.

The Visiting Assistant Professor position teaches various levels of Production Techniques, Theatre Practicum, and co-teaches Graphic Communication, as well as other technical theatre classes on a rotating basis.

As Production Manager and Technical Director, responsibilities include: maintain the department’s academic and production calendar, set and maintain the department’s production budgets, schedule and supervise all design and production meetings, attend all technical rehearsals for a five-production season, oversee all production work and personnel management, work in tandem with the Assistant Technical Director to supervise the student staff in the scenic, properties, and paint areas, maintain safety policies for department productions, serve as point-of-contact for the university’s environmental health and safety office and the university facilities office, oversee all rentals of the theatre spaces, and supervise the student-assignments of production personnel.

The University of Evansville Department of Theatre is a nationally recognized undergraduate program with a mission of educating future professionals.  Each year, faculty members travel nationwide to audition and interview over 2000 prospective students and accept a first-year cohort of 30 students.  We have found this selective recruitment provides us with an exceptional group of creative young people with serious attitudes toward education and theatre. As a department of theatre within a liberal arts and sciences university, the program allows students to gain the broad base of knowledge they need as theatre artists.  Students also receive extensive, individualized theatre training through classroom and production experiences. 

Qualifications: 

MFA in Technical Direction preferred.  Will accept professional experience, along with an undergraduate degree in Design and Technology, and a focus in any of the following: Scene Shop/Technical Direction, Technical Management, or Entertainment Engineering. Valid Driver’s License. 

Preferred Experience: 

Experience mentoring undergraduates in a shop setting, professional theatre scenery construction or management, Computer Aided Drafting (AutoCAD or VectorWorks), Metal Inert Gas (MiG) welding, Computer Aided Machining (CAM), Stage Rigging, sound systems design and maintenance.
