Esports Coordinator & Head Coach
The University of Evansville invites applications for the position of Esports Coordinator & Head Coach. This dynamic, full-time position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the University’s Esports Center and leading the varsity esports program. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, strategic planning, and a passion for student development—balancing competitive success with academic excellence and holistic student growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all aspects of the UE Esports Center including varsity team operations, practices, tryouts, open play, recruitment, youth camps, and campus events.
- Ensure adherence to University policies and NACE (National Association of Collegiate Esports) best practices.
- Assist Admissions with student recruitment efforts by engaging with prospective students, leading recruitment events, and coordinating tryouts and scholarship offerings.
- Foster a team culture focused on sportsmanship, communication, accountability, character, and academic achievement.
- Plan and attend all practices and competitions while managing scheduling and logistics.
- Oversee budgeting, team travel, game schedules, and behavioral expectations.
- Maintain and upgrade esports facilities and equipment in collaboration with campus partners.
- Advise on game selection for varsity and non-varsity competition.
- Develop and execute a marketing and media strategy to promote the program through social media, streaming platforms, and campus outreach.
- Supervise a student-driven media team responsible for livestreaming and commentary of esports matches.
- Coordinate and lead camps, clinics, and promotional events to engage students and generate revenue.
- Build and maintain a strong program reputation locally and regionally.
- Monitor student-athlete academic progress and mental well-being, providing appropriate referrals and support.
- Ensure player eligibility and compliance with university and national governing body policies.
- Manage corporate sponsorships and departmental budget planning.
- Establish and chair an Esports Advisory Board comprised of students, faculty, and community stakeholders.
- Hire and supervise student staff, volunteers, and interns, with potential to grow the coaching team.
- Serve as an active member of the Fitness and Intramurals department and broader Student Affairs division.
- Participate on University committees and assist with departmental initiatives as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred)
- Demonstrated experience in playing, coaching, or advising esports teams
- Esports coaching certificate preferred
- Advanced knowledge of at least 2 of the top 5 collegiate esports titles (League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, Valorant, Super Smash Bros.), with basic familiarity of all 5
- Passion for supporting student development and academic success
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Technical knowledge of gaming equipment, streaming software, and social media platforms
- Availability to work evening and weekend hours as required
