Purple Aces Production Technical Director

The University of Evansville is seeking an experienced and innovative Technical Director for Purple Aces Production to oversee and lead the production of all “The Valley on ESPN” live-stream broadcasts. This role is essential in meeting the University’s broadcast obligations while upholding ESPN-quality production standards.

This position requires strong technical knowledge, production experience, leadership skills, and the ability to manage and mentor both student workers and part-time production staff. The successful candidate will be passionate about collegiate athletics broadcasting and committed to continuous improvement and innovation in live-streaming and video production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and produce all aspects of live-stream productions for “The Valley on ESPN” broadcasts, ensuring compliance with University and ESPN standards
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of part-time and student workers to fulfill production needs
  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure high-quality video, audio, lighting, and graphic elements
  • Oversee all technical aspects of the production including staffing, scripting, directing, troubleshooting, editing, and post-production review
  • Produce engaging athletic-related video content for commercial use and in-game features
  • Develop and maintain standards and protocols to ensure deliverables are optimized for both internal and external use
  • Continuously research and implement new technologies, techniques, and workflows to improve broadcast quality and efficiency
  • Assist with creating graphics and other visual elements aligned with ESPN broadcast quality expectations
  • Work evenings and weekends as necessary to support live event schedules

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to produce and direct ESPN-quality live broadcasts
  • Strong knowledge of video production workflows, broadcasting systems, audio mixing, lighting, and live-streaming equipment
  • Demonstrated experience leading a production team, including scheduling, training, and performance oversight
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Proficiency in video editing software, live-streaming platforms, and graphic design tools
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, based on game schedules

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in collegiate or professional sports broadcasting
  • Familiarity with ESPN’s production standards and protocols
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro and After Effects
