Assistant Athletic Communications Director

The University of Evansville invites applications for the position of Assistant Media Relations Director. This full-time role serves as the primary strategic communications contact for multiple NCAA Division I sports programs. Reporting to the Director of Athletic Communications, the Assistant Media Relations Director plays a critical role in enhancing the visibility and brand of UE Athletics through digital, print, and broadcast media.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary media relations contact for assigned sports, overseeing all aspects of communications, including press releases, game notes, media guides, and statistical reporting.
  • Design and edit department publications using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Create and distribute compelling digital content and assist with graphic design projects to elevate program visibility.
  • Maintain and regularly update the official athletics website, GoPurpleAces.com, including bios, stats, rosters, records, and historical archives.
  • Manage social media channels for assigned sports to ensure consistent and engaging content across platforms.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and national media; coordinate media requests and press availability.
  • Direct press box and media operations during home events.
  • Collaborate with athletics staff on recruitment, ticket sales, and community engagement initiatives through strategic storytelling.
  • Coordinate with the Missouri Valley Conference and NCAA for statistical accuracy, awards nominations, and compliance reporting.
  • Travel with teams as necessary, providing on-site communications support and content capture.
  • Assist with department-wide initiatives and provide coverage for additional sports as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Communications, Journalism, Sports Management, or related field preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Adobe Creative Suite proficiency, especially InDesign and Photoshop
  • Experience in statistical software such as NCAA LiveStats and StatCrew
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms and content management tools
  • Strong understanding of social media best practices for athletic programs
  • Knowledge of NCAA and Missouri Valley Conference rules and regulations
  • Creative content development or digital marketing experience strongly preferred

Additional Information

This role requires evening and weekend availability, as well as occasional travel.
