Public Safety Officer

The University of Evansville is seeking dedicated and service-minded Public Safety Officers to join the Office of Public Safety. This position plays an essential role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming campus environment through proactive patrol, community engagement, and professional enforcement of University policies and Indiana State Statutes.

About the Role

The Office of Public Safety provides key services that focus on campus engagement, campus protection, and policy enforcement. Campus engagement centers on a public service–oriented approach, emphasizing visibility, approachability, and positive interactions with students, employees, and visitors. Campus protection includes maintaining a safe environment by deterring criminal activity and identifying potential hazards such as fire or safety risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular campus patrols, safety inspections, and investigations.
  • Provide traffic and parking control, building access control, and safety escorts across campus.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and routine service calls while maintaining composure and professionalism.
  • Complete accurate reports documenting criminal and non-criminal incidents.
  • Collaborate with departments including Residence Life, Student Affairs, Facilities Management, Counseling Services, and the Community Health Clinic.
  • Engage the campus community in a manner that promotes trust, safety, and mutual respect.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with basic computer systems and software.
  • Commitment to professionalism and to representing the University positively within a diverse campus community.
