Courier, Mail Distribution Services

The University of Evansville is seeking a full-time Mail Courier to join the Mail Services and Distribution Services team. This position plays an important role in ensuring the timely, accurate, and professional handling of all campus mail and deliveries while maintaining a high level of customer service and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pick up, load, sort, and deliver all campus mail including U.S. Postal Service, campus, vendor, and overnight mail in a consistent and timely manner, with assistance from student workers as available.
  • Assist with processing and distributing student packages, including maintaining accurate tracking documentation for daily deliveries.
  • Operate and maintain the university mail van, including fueling, scheduling maintenance, and service using a UE P-Card.
  • Safely operate equipment such as a forklift and pallet jack as needed to support departmental operations.
  • Track mail pieces (business reply and postage) daily, process monthly journal entries, and assist with contract mailings.
  • Monitor and respond promptly to mail service emails and phone calls.
  • Assist the Mail Services Lead and other UE staff in training and supervising work-study students.
  • Follow all mail handling procedures, including USPS requirements and University policies and procedures.
  • Perform cross-functional duties within Distribution Services and other assigned tasks as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate university vehicles.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in customer service and/or package delivery.
  • Strong communication, computer, and interpersonal skills with a service-oriented approach.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, and lift or carry boxes and materials weighing 50 pounds or more on a daily basis.
  • Proficiency with email and spreadsheet applications; ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle information responsibly.
  • Forklift experience preferred, or willingness to complete UE forklift certification within the first 90 days of employment.
