Central Plant Maintenance Technician

The University of Evansville (UE) is seeking an experienced and licensed Central Plant Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities team. This vital role is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the University's utility production and distribution equipment, ensuring a comfortable and functional campus environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Central Plant Maintenance Technician will be the primary operator and technician for the campus utility infrastructure. Your main duties will include:

  • Central Plant Operations: Perform maintenance and repair on key Central Plant utility production and distribution equipment, including Boilers, Chillers, and water softeners.
  • Utility Systems Maintenance: Conduct maintenance and repair of campus-wide HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing equipment and systems.
  • Environmental Control: Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.) within assigned parameters using appropriate control systems.
  • Pool Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance of the Campus Pool and its associated infrastructure.
  • Building Maintenance: Perform maintenance and repair of internal and external structural and building envelope components in assigned facilities.
  • Equipment & Infrastructure: Maintain and repair miscellaneous capital equipment, furniture, and specialized installed equipment across campus.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose trouble situations related to facility systems and resolve them appropriately. Read and apply O&M manuals for facilities and equipment.
  • Schedule & Availability: This is a full-time position, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM. Occasional overtime is required in response to emergency situations.

Required Qualifications

  • Licensure: Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) license is required.
  • Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of boiler operations, water distribution, and chillers.
  • Trade Skills: Working knowledge of the electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpenter trades, including the standard tools of each trade.
  • HVAC Controls: Knowledge of HVAC control systems.
  • Building Knowledge: Working knowledge of structural component and building envelope maintenance and repair practices.
  • Physical Requirements: Able to work at heights and in restricted spaces. Able to handle loads up to 50 lbs. Frequently works in extreme high/low temperatures.
  • Documentation: Ability to read and comprehend service/utility distribution to assigned facilities and apply O&M manuals.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working in a university or institutional central plant environment.
