On the Air
WUEV has grown to serve not only the University of Evansville, but also the world beyond, as “Evansville’s Radio Station.”
Now in its seventh decade of existence, WUEV has earned numerous awards for programming and service to the Evansville community throughout the years, while also owning the distinction of being the first internet-streaming radio station in the state of Indiana in 1996.
WUEV began on March 31, 1951, as a 10-watt, monaural station known as WEVC. The call letters changed on January 1, 1977, to WUEV to reflect the school’s name change from Evansville College to the University of Evansville.
WUEV features a diverse programming format, ranging from jazz to top 40 music to alternative rock and rap. WUEV also is the broadcast home for the University of Evansville’s Division I athletic programs. The wide variety of music lends itself to a very diverse listenership, as well as a diverse student staff. With a proud history of being a student-run radio station, WUEV serves as not only the campus’ radio voice, but also a learning experience and training ground for UE’s student body.
