Class Year: 2020

Why did you choose to attend UE?
I appreciated the small class sizes, faculty that really cared, and the closeness to home. I knew that I was going to receive a top-notch education and make connections that would help me in my career. Oh…and the beautiful campus doesn’t hurt either!

How has your program/major prepared you for a future career?
It helped me tremendously in my graduate program. While others in my cohort were stunned and struggling with the thesis process, I had a lot less anxiety around it due to projects and assignments I completed in the Sociology program. It was not easy, but I felt extremely prepared for graduate school. My time at UE also very much prepared me to be an incredible therapist. I learned a lot about how people work and why they do the things they do. The systemic nature of the Sociology program prepared me to feel confident in seeing clients of all kinds of populations and presenting problems. I wouldn’t be half the therapist I am today without UE Sociology and Dr. Plikuhn.

What activities or organizations were you involved with at UE? How have these impacted you and your college career?
I participated in academic organizations and also did some work with Relay for Life through campus. Additionally, I found three internships through my time at UE working with survivors of sexual and domestic violence, low income students, and kiddos needing help with supervised visitations. These experiences gave me great insight into working with vulnerable populations, and I use those skills to this very day.

What makes UE a special place? How did our campus shape your college experience?
UE allows students to thrive. Walking around campus on a crisp fall day is always the push you need to keep going. Campus itself is beautiful, the faculty are always there to support, and you make connections that push you towards your goals.

What advice would you share with incoming students?
Take it all in, and don’t forget to have fun too! My main regret from UE is not being more active on campus with other students. I was doing a lot, between classes, interning, and working. Those things are all important, but so are friendships you make along the way! Prioritize that!

Why do you recommend the University of Evansville?
It prepares you very well for life after graduation, and you will learn so much – not only about your field, but about yourself, too!
