Biography
Joan Fedor-Bassemier is a clinical assistant professor and simulation coordinator in the Dunigan Family School of Nursing at the University of Evansville. Joan is instrumental in planning, developing and implementing state-of-the-art technology in the UE Simulation Lab and integrates simulation into the Nursing curriculum. Joan develops numerous scenarios with special focus on cultural diversity and passionately believes that simulation enables students to integrate nursing theory and clinical practice in a safe, realistic environment.
Joan has worked as a director of critical care, perioperative, medical surgical, and community health nursing and has presented at local and national nursing conferences. She is an active member of the INACSL, Tri-State Simulation Consortium, Association of Nurse Executives, and Indiana Organization of Nurse Executives.
Joan serves as a mentor to simulation specialists, UE faculty, and the Evansville Tri State Consortium Group. She also serves as a faculty advisor to SNAP, the local chapter of student nurse organization. To attract future nurses, Joan conducts tours and provides hands experiences in the Simulation Lab for students from elementary through high school.
Outside of nursing, Joan is an avid gardener, who grows flowers and vegetables in raised beds with individual irrigation systems. Joan's garden was featured in the April/May 2009 issue of Evansville Woman. True to her Hungarian roots, Joan loves to cook and prepare authentic Hungarian dishes such as Chicken Paprikash from family recipes.
