Course Offerings and Fieldwork

A multidisciplinary approach will allow students to complement an ethics core with concentrations in two other areas. The ethics and social change major has six required courses (core experience: 18 hours) in addition to two concentrations (18 hours each) selected in consultation with the director of the ethics program for a total of 54 hours. Major courses include:

  • Introduction to Ethics
  • Social Justice Movements
  • Complex Systems and Social Change
  • Fieldwork 1: Social Change Field Experience
  • Fieldwork 2: Social Change Field Experience
  • Ethics and Social Change

Students may choose from a variety of concentration pairings:

  • Business Administration
  • Cognitive Science
  • Communication
  • Criminal Justice
  • Environmental Studies
  • Legal Studies
  • Gender and Women’s Studies
  • Philosophy
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • Race and Ethnicity Studies
  • Religion
  • Sociology or Social Work

Students majoring in other areas may double major by adding the ethics and social change major or can choose to minor in the program.

Fieldwork is built directly into the required curriculum. Students can be a part of the university’s anti-bias team, propose solutions to real world problems as part of UE’s Changemaker Challenge, take part in internships with an established network of community partners, and more.
