BA in International Studies

International Studies prepares students for a more complex and interconnected world of the 21st century. If you are curious about politics, economics, history, other cultures, or public health, when you pursue an International Studies degree at UE you will learn how to analyze these global issues through a multidisciplinary context and acquire the skills required of tomorrow’s global leaders.

Students must take three years of one foreign language or two years of two foreign languages. Students also complete an international studies core (consisting of courses in international relations, world politics, economics, history, culture, and research methods) as well as an area concentration on:

  • Global Health
  • Global Civic Engagement
  • International Business
  • World Culture
  • International History

Skills

Students who earn a degree in International Studies are able to:

  • Effectively communicate across cultures in at least two languages.
  • Have deep knowledge of at least one region outside the US.
  • Analyze information through a multidisciplinary context of theory and methodology.
  • Develop skills for critical reading and thinking, teamwork, research and writing
  • Identify and understand cultural differences.
  • Recognize the US as a piece of the global puzzle.

International Opportunities

International studies majors are required to study abroad or complete an internship abroad, and many choose to do so more than once! Harlaxton College, UE’s living, learning center in Grantham, England, is a popular destination for students of all majors. The University of Evansville now has student exchange agreements with two universities in China (Northeast Electric Power University), in India (Jindal Global University and Vellore Institute of Technology), and in Spain (University of Málaga). For additional study abroad opportunities, many international studies majors choose to study abroad in a country that matches their foreign language or area concentration.
