Career Survey Reveals 92% Placement Rate for 2012 UE Graduates

Posted: Monday, February 11, 2013

A recently completed survey of the University of Evansville’s 2012 graduating class found that 92 percent are employed or in graduate school.

The survey, a collaborative effort between UE’s Center for Career Development, Office of Alumni and Parent Relations, Office of Institutional Effectiveness, and academic departments, produced career information on 87 percent of the 583 members of the Class of 2012 (including December 2011, May 2012, and July 2012 graduates).

Highlights of the survey include:
• The median salary of graduates employed full-time was $42,500.
• Sixty-two percent of employed graduates were working in Indiana. When entering UE in fall 2008, 57 percent of this class was from Indiana.
• Thirty-two percent of graduates not currently in graduate school indicated plans to pursue graduate school within the next three years.

The numbers stand in contrast to those on a national level. In 2012, the Associated Press reported than half of recent college graduates are unemployed or underemployed. The median salary of UE's Class of 2012 is also above the average for 2012 graduates, as reported by the National Association of Colleges and Employers ($41,343 for the Evansville area).

“At a time when there is much talk about the challenging job market for recent college graduates, as well as students’ preparedness to enter the work force, our survey of the Class of 2012 paints a remarkably positive picture,” said UE President Thomas A. Kazee. “This is our first effort to launch an extensive, collaborative survey among several campus offices and national clearinghouses to gather data on our 2012 graduates, and we’re thrilled to find such encouraging results.”

“The outcomes of this survey are a testament to the academic excellence and professionalism of students who graduate from the University of Evansville,” Kazee added, “as well as the efforts of faculty and employees to prepare students for future success.”

As part of the Big Freeze affordability and career development initiative launched in August 2012, UE’s Center for Career Development added new staff and opportunities to help students succeed after graduation. Current students now can pursue the Advanced Career Education (ACE) Certificate to hone their professional skills, and graduating seniors and new alumni can sign up for the UE Connect alumni mentoring program.

All Center for Career Development services, ranging from résumé and cover letter assistance to mock interviews to the UE JobLink database, are free to students and alumni.
