Public Safety Officer

The University of Evansville invites applications for the position of Security Officer/Dispatcher within the Office of Public Safety. This vital role supports the University’s commitment to a safe, secure, and welcoming campus environment through both dispatch operations and routine public safety responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a dispatcher by answering emergency and non-emergency calls, monitoring alarm systems, and coordinating officer responses.
  • Perform routine security services including campus patrols, building checks, safety escorts, and parking enforcement.
  • Assist with investigations, safety inspections, and access control.
  • Complete incident reports and maintain accurate records of criminal and non-criminal activity.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Residence Life, Student Affairs, Facilities Management, Counseling Services, and the Community Health Clinic.
  • Provide support during weekends, holidays, and university breaks as part of a 24/7 operation.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated work ethic and ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Basic proficiency in computer systems and software.
  • Commitment to professionalism and to serving a diverse university community.

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position with competitive benefits. Public Safety Officers are essential members of the campus community and represent the University in daily interactions with students, faculty, staff, and guests.
