Program Overview

  • The Center for Inclusive Excellence strives to provide middle and high school students with the opportunity to experience college within a structured collegiate environment with skilled university faculty and staff. The Jr. TASL Scholars Summer Program is designed to introduce and develop the next generation of college students, community leaders, and workforce innovators through a balanced combination of self-care, leadership development, and community focused projects.
  • Regular attendance is encouraged in order to get the maximum experience of the program.  Each week is built on the previous week’s lessons and hands-on activities. Each day combines a balance of educational leadership activities, college & career readiness, self-care and reflection, and entrepreneurship development.
  • Each day students will have lunch provided and have recreational time with their peers. This time is to promote balance in programs and allow students a break from their daily activities. We will also include some structured recreation that will aid in teamwork development and problem-solving techniques.
  • Select days will feature local guest speakers from the community that will focus on the topic of the day/week. We will also do supplemental activities, including a campus tour, group photos, and supervised social activities that encourage friendship, confidence, and community building within a welcoming collegiate environment.
  • This program encourages family engagement. On the last day of the program, participant families will be invited to a presentation and light meal to learn about the program and future opportunities.
  • This program is designed to meet students where they are academically, mentally, emotionally, and economically to move them into the next phase of their futures while also supporting their community through community service.

**There will be additional opportunities for students who participate in the summer program to come back to campus with their families during the academic year. Dates and times TBD.

After-School Program (September-April)

After-School Program Overview

  • The Center for Inclusive Excellence strives to provide middle and high school students with the opportunity to experience a college campus during its busiest times of the year. Our goal during the academic year is to expose students to two new academic areas a month and give them the opportunity to meet faculty, students, and do hands-on activities with the featured academic department.
  • Regular attendance is encouraged in order to get the maximum experience of the program.  Sometimes sessions are done in two parts that require students to be present to get the most out of their experience.
  • After each session, students will have dinner in our dining hall during our regular dinner hour and experience dining on campus with our currently enrolled college students.
  • Select sessions will feature local guest speakers from the community that will focus on the topic of the day/week. We will also do supplemental activities, including a campus tour, group photos, and supervised social activities that encourage friendship and confidence.
  • The after-school program is designed for students currently involved with local community youth-serving organizations that do not participate in the Jr. TASL Summer Program.

Please read the Youth Programs, Camps, & Conferences Handbook and Child Protection Policy PRIOR to registering for programs, camps, and conferences. Be advised there is a non-refundable $40 registration fee included in the price of each camp.

Our goal is to make our youth programs, camps, and conferences accessible to students regardless of their ability to pay. Thanks to generous funding from Lilly Endowment Inc., we can offer financial assistance to students who demonstrate need. If you are interested in receiving Financial Assistance, please complete the Financial Assistance Request Form BEFORE registering. Please allow up to two business days for your request to be processed. Because demand for assistance is great and funds are limited, we encourage parents/guardians to apply early.
