Why did you choose to attend UE?

Several factors influenced my college decision, but one of the main draws for me was Harlaxton. I knew I wanted to study abroad ever since I was in middle school, and once I found out about Harlaxton, I was absolutely determined to experience it for myself. Even with my high expectations I had built up, it still managed to blow me away when I finally got to go to Harlaxton for the Fall 2022 semester! That was one of the best experiences of my life.

Did you visit campus before choosing UE?

What was it like, what did you notice, or how did it contribute to your college decision? I visited UE three times during my college decision process. I came for a regular visit, Scholar Day, and Road Trip. I visited the Center for Career Development where I met Dianna, one of the career coaches. We had such a great meeting, and throughout the rest of the year she emailed me several times to check in, and I loved building that personal connection before I even was attending UE. My Admission Counselor was so helpful, even giving me her personal phone number so I could ask her any questions I had. I met with a professor and was blown away by how personable she was as well as hands-on, community-focused way she handled her classes and relationships with her students.

What activities or organizations have you been involved with at UE?

How have these impacted your college career? My favorite organization on campus is Admission Ambassadors! I have held an executive position for the past two years, and I have loved the opportunity to grow in my leadership skills while doing something I love. I am also the Chief Marketing Officer for our Student Government Association, which has been a great opportunity for me as well. I’ve been able to meet and work with people I otherwise would not have interacted with on campus, and I love getting all those fresh perspectives.

How has your program shaped and prepared you for a future career?

I cannot speak highly enough about our Communication program here at UE. The professors are truly some of my favorite people, and I love how they all specialize in different areas within the field of communication. This ensures that our education is well-rounded and really prepares us for the real world. We also have a student-run marketing and communication organization called Embrace. Embrace works with real clients in the Evansville community and beyond. I am currently our Marketing Strategist, and it has been so fun to work with such a driven team while getting such hands-on, real-world experience working with actual clients before I even graduate.

Why do you recommend UE? What advice would you share with incoming students?

I absolutely recommend UE to other people, and I am even trying to convince my little sister to come here! The biggest piece of advice I would give to incoming students is to make sure you find a community at the school you choose. With academics, what you put into your education will be what you get out of it, no matter where you go. Sometimes, the people who make my day so special end up being people like Danny from our kitchen staff, who knew what I got for dinner every day and would have it waiting for me when I walked up, or Mark from Facilities Management, who would always say hi to me around campus after he changed a lightbulb for me in my dorm.
