Why did you choose to attend UE?

I chose to attend the University of Evansville because of how I felt instantly welcomed by the UE community. I could easily see how the smaller campus allowed faculty, students, and community members to interact and form connections with one another. Furthermore, I was accepted into the Baccalaureate to Doctor of Medicine program here at UE. This was a major reason for me to come to school here because I believed that the academic rigor of this program, along with the interconnected UE community, would equip me with the skills to succeed in both college and my future schooling/career.

What was your college visit experience like?

I did visit campus a few times before choosing UE. Initially, I was strongly against coming to UE solely because I did not like the idea of attending a small college. However, during my second visit, I opened up more and began to realize the unique features of our small campus. I noticed how my tour guide, a senior at the time, was constantly waving and smiling at other students and faculty that we passed. I noticed the faculty and students on campus were promoting many different involvement opportunities both on and off campus. I also noticed how lively and connected people on campus were, whether that be in the cafeteria, walking to class, or just hanging out in the library. These factors all helped me make my decision to come to UE because I realized that this smaller campus provides students with opportunities to get involved in organizations, they are passionate about, to make strong connections with peers and faculty, and to be a part of such a welcoming and thriving community. I realized that this smaller campus was not a negative, but rather, it would provide me with a place where I could grow and succeed as a college student.

What activities or organizations have you been involved with at UE?

Currently, my executive positions include Vice President of the Chemistry Club, Student Government Association Academic Fund Board Representative, and Scholarship Chair of my fraternity. I am also a member of the following organizations: Orientation Leaders, Admission Ambassadors, Neuroscience/Psychology Club, Biological Sciences Club, Pre-Professional Health Club, the Honors Program, Pickleball Club, and intramural athletics.

How have these impacted your college career?

These organizations have made a huge impact on my college career as they have allowed me to immerse myself in the Evansville community. They have made me more appreciative of the opportunities offered here at UE and let me form meaningful connections with many wonderful peers and faculty members.

How has your program shaped and prepared you for a future career?

The B/MD program has undoubtedly better prepared me for my future career. Francie Renschler, the B/MD and Pre-Professional Health Advisor, has provided all of us with many opportunities and connections to shadowing, research, and internship offers at UE and in the surrounding area. For me personally, the B/MD program has provided me with more comfort and advice on how to handle the challenge that is pre-medical studies. I have been able to speak and connect with the Dean of IU Medical School here in Evansville, receive advice on class schedules, and make connections that have helped me secure research positions and succeed in my current classes. These benefits have been very helpful in advancing my college career and preparing me to succeed in accomplishing my professional goals.

How has UE been affordable for you?

The financial aid offered at UE was one of the main reasons I chose to attend here. The B/MD scholarship was a huge pull for me, but the many other scholarships offered by UE helped ease the financial burden. I have been able to focus more on my academics with less stress about the financial aspect of college, which has been a blessing.

Why do you recommend UE?

I recommend UE to people thinking about attending college, because UE can offer the opportunity and connections of a larger school while still maintaining the appeal and closeness of a small school. UE’s career fairs, faculty connections, welcoming community, and small class sizes will not only best prepare you for the professional world in your field, but also let you enjoy your college experience and form lasting connections with your peers.

What advice would you share with incoming students?

Make the most of your college experience. The opportunities and connections are readily available here at UE; you just need to be willing to take the initiative to get involved and put yourself in a position to succeed.
