Why did you decide to transfer to UE?
Before transferring to UE, I struggled to connect with my school. I went to a large university and felt like I was just a number. I wanted to connect with my professors and peers more than I was able to at my previous school. In addition, I was struggling on a personal level with my mental health. It was a very difficult decision, but I ultimately decided to move home and attend UE.
How did UE support you during the transfer process?
Cherie Leonhardt has been an amazing mentor to me. From the moment I met her, she had nothing but enthusiasm towards this University. During my visit, I remember her looking at me and saying, “I think UE will be so good for you, but I think UE needs you even more.” I think back to that moment frequently and tear up. I was struggling with the transfer process, and I never felt like I mattered until I stepped onto UE’s campus. She made me feel like I could make a difference here, and I’ll never forget it. Once I put my deposit down, she emailed me with the subject line, “YEAH! Hannah’s coming to UE!!!!!”. She made me feel excited about coming to UE and always did everything in her power to connect me to people who could help with whatever question I had.
What activities or organizations were you involved with at UE, and how did this impact your college experience?
As soon as I got to UE, I became involved in as many activities as I could. I had the wonderful opportunity to work as an Admissions Ambassador, and now I am always eager to help with prospective transfer students. I also got the opportunity to be involved in Greek Life, where I served on my sorority’s Executive Board as the Vice President of Membership Experience. I met some of my best friends through this organization, and it gave me a direct way to be involved in the campus and Evansville communities.
What do you love about being an Ace?
The feeling of community and support on campus. Everyone on campus wants to see you succeed and will do everything they can to help you get there.
Why do you recommend transferring to UE? What piece of advice would you give to students considering this?
The most significant piece of advice I have for incoming transfer students is that it’s okay to change your mind and make the decision to transfer. Sometimes your first choice is not the best fit for you, and that’s okay. I was terrified that transferring schools meant I was “giving up,” but it just meant I had the courage and strength to make a change when I knew I wasn’t happy.
