Dr. Jason E James is an Assistant Professor and Program Director of Cybersecurity at the University of Evansville and holds a DSc from Robert Morris University in 2017. He joined the School of Engineering and Computer Science faculty in 2026 after spending 8 years at Indiana State University. Dr. James has 15 years of industry experience with the federal government in the Department of War as a Senior Information Systems Auditor and Team Leader. Dr James also earned his MS degree in Information Security and Assurance (Cybersecurity) in 2019 from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and an MBA from Robert Morris University in 2005. Dr. James expertise and research interests include digital forensics, information systems security, hardware/software and OSINT.

Externally Funded Grants

  • Awarded $300,000 grant for each calendar year 2024 and 2025 by IPAC as a High-Tech Cybercrime Units for Indiana
  • Authetic8 provides 10 Silo licenses for use in academics valued at $50,000
  • Operation Underground Railroad $50,000 grant for new computers, desks and chairs for Intel Lab
  • Operation Underground Railroad provided training of the ESD K9 which is $20,000 as well as 2 weeks of handler training and initial costs which were approximately $10,000. The ESD K9 was donated to the HTCU.
  • Magnet Forensics provides 60 licenses for academic learning at no cost as a gift in kind but valued at $519,000.
  • Paraben provided 50 licenses a year through August 2025 to teach students digital forensics with their software valued at $147,543.
  • Principal investigator for partnering with the Vigo County prosecutor’s office on a grant from the Indiana Prosecutors Attorney’s Council (IPAC) from the state of Indiana. Awarded $300,000 a year grant for calendar year 2022&2023 by IPAC as a High-Tech Cybercrime Units in the state of Indiana to serve the following counties law enforcement agencies: Vigo, Clay, Fountain, Hendricks, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, and Vermillion Counties.
    • Grant provides funds to hire and train students as well as purchase hardware and software to operate the unit.
    • Director & Chief Digital Forensics Investigator for the HTCU.
