Public Safety Officer

The University of Evansville (UE) Office of Public Safety is seeking a dedicated, professional, and community-minded Public Safety Officer/Dispatcher. This vital role is at the frontline of our commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming campus environment. Whether you are behind the dispatch console coordinating a response or on foot patrol engaging with our students, you will be a key guardian of the UE community.

Key Responsibilities

  • This position is a "dual-threat" role that combines active security presence with critical communication hub operations. Your main duties will include:
  • Dispatch Operations: Act as the central communication point for the campus; answer emergency and non-emergency calls, monitor campus alarm systems, and dispatch personnel via radio.
  • Campus Patrol: Conduct routine foot and vehicle patrols of campus grounds, residence halls, and parking lots to deter crime and identify safety hazards.
  • Emergency Response: Provide immediate assistance during medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security incidents, working closely with local law enforcement and emergency services.
  • Community Service: Provide safety escorts for students and staff, assist with vehicle lockouts or jump-starts, and offer directions and information to campus visitors.
  • Incident Reporting: Maintain accurate daily logs and prepare detailed written reports regarding campus incidents, ensuring a high level of documentation integrity.
  • Building Security: Ensure campus buildings are secured according to schedule and assist with authorized access for faculty, staff, and students.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  • Licensure: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to remain calm and clear under pressure.
  • Technology: Basic proficiency in computer systems and software for dispatching and reporting.
  • Attributes: A demonstrated work ethic, the ability to work effectively as part of a team, and a deep commitment to professionalism.
