Hiring Foreign Nationals 101

The University of Evansville is pleased to host a free informational session on hiring foreign nationals. With the extended STEM Optional Practical Training for international students and the demand for skilled employees, this session will provide information on the processes of hiring foreign nationals for a variety of positions, from internships to full-time employment.

Presented by David Guerrettaz, Attorney at Law, and Kate Hogan, PDSO/RO, University of Evansville in collaboration with the UE Center for Career Development.

We will discuss the benefits and simplicity of hiring foreign nationals and focus on learning the processes and commitments associated with international student employment.

Employers do not incur additional costs by hiring international students.

Topics being covered:

  • Internships & Co-ops; known as Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
  • Post-graduation full-time employment; known as Optional Practical Training (OPT)
  • Potential STEM extension

AND
A brief discussion of H-1B visas, and permanent residence.

Kate Hogan is the director for cultural engagement and international services at the University of Evansville. She serves as the primary designated school official and the responsible officer for the University’s respective F-1 and J-1 international student programs. She is a member of NAFSA and has worked with international students for over 12 years.

David Guerretaz is a partner at Ziemer, Stayman, Weitzel & Shoulders, LLP, with a focus on immigration law. David is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). He serves as the Chair of the AILA Indiana Chapter. David also teaches Introductory and Advanced Business Law at the University of Evansville, where he has served as an instructor for over 20 years.
