What was your favorite part of studying Creative Writing at UE?

I think my favorite part of studying Creative Writing at UE was the amazing faculty behind the department. They were all fun, easygoing people who treated me like an adult and were realistic without being harsh. Plus, they were all incredibly talented people, so being taught and mentored by them was a great opportunity.

What did you experience in UE's CRW department that feels special/unique to our program?

Something that's special about pretty much any course/field of study at UE is the small class size, and I think that's one of the biggest draws for the school in general. There's an intimacy to everything that you just don't see at most schools. You're not a number, you're an actual person with thoughts and ideas that are valued and respected.

What was your favorite Creative Writing class and why?

It's tough to name just one favorite class, especially if I'm considering everything that I studied while at UE. But if we're just talking about Creative Writing courses, I'd have to say Senior Seminar. And if you want to know why it was my favorite, you'll just have to come to UE and ask Rob Griffith about the class of 2011...

What are you up to now?

After I graduated, I wasn't sure what to do with my life. I sort of wandered around aimlessly for a couple of years, taking on a variety of odd-jobs I honestly could have handled without any sort of degree until I decided to study library science. I'm now working as a senior children's librarian at New York Public Library, at a branch right across the street from MoMA. I spend my days reading and singing to babies, teaching STEAM principles to elementary kids, doing outreach at local schools, and trying to make new/exciting things happen at my branch. It's sort of the most amazing, exhausting thing I've ever been a part of, and I couldn't be happier.

I haven't done much writing, beyond blogging for work or papers for school, in the past few years. However, I'm currently working on ideas for books I think are missing from library shelves at the moment. So stay tuned!
