University of Evansville Announces Black History Month Events

The University of Evansville's Black Student Union (BSU) is sponsoring a long list of events to celebrate Black History Month throughout February. 

Now You See Me: A Discussion and Presentation about Stereotypes
Thursday, February 1 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Eykamp Hall, Room 252, Ridgway University Center
Video and discussion dealing with steretypes placed on marginalized groups on college campuses. BSU will discuss these stereotypes and how students should be seen in relation to their goals in life and as a student in higher education. 

Women of the Civil Rights Movement Live Experience
Saturday, February 3 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Eykamp Hall, Room 251, Ridgway University Center

Through this live exhibit, learn more about the women behind the Civil Rights Movement and the many contributions that have made them unsung heroes today. 

My Roots: Presentation and Discussion on Black/African American Hair
Tuesday, February 6 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Eykamp Hall, Room 252, Ridgway University Center
This presentation and discussion will explore Black/African American hair throughout history and today.

Dining with the Past Soul Food Dinner featuring Famous Black and African American Oscar, Emmy, and Tony Winners
Tuesday, February 22 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Eykamp Hall, Room 251, Ridgway University Center
Students will portray individuals over the decades who have been honored as award winners in the arts.  There will be a soul food dinner and production that shares a piece of this history with the audience. 
Students: $1, Campus and Community Members: $10

Freedom Center Underground Railroad Trip and Black Panther Movie
Saturday, February 24, all day
Cincinnati, OH - Registration required.
Participants will visit the National Underground Railroad Museum and see the Black Panther Movie, scheduled for release on February 15. This event is reserved for students and those affiliated with UE. Registration is required. For more information contact LaNeeça Williams at 812-488-2413.
