EVANSVILLE, IN – The University of Evansville is deeply grateful for the life and legacy of alumna, Maureen T. Fitzgerald ’63, whose generous gift of $339,000 will carry on her kindness for years to come.

"Maureen Fitzgerald's unwavering commitment to aid those in need, particularly adult learners pursuing their academic dreams, was truly a testament to her remarkable character," expressed Abigail Werling, Vice President for University Advancement.

Ms. Fitzgerald passed away on December 30, 2023. However, her benevolence lives on through the Fitzgerald Endowed Scholarship. This endowed fund will annually award a $10,000 scholarship to a deserving non-traditional student, promoting accessibility to quality education for these learners.

As a 1963 graduate of Evansville College (now the University of Evansville), Ms. Fitzgerald journeyed from Memorial High School in Evansville, IN to carrying out her studies in sociology and psychology at the University. Her experiences and studies fostered within her a spirit of service, leading to a life dedicated to social services and criminal justice.

"Ms. Fitzgerald's exceptional generosity will continue to touch lives and build futures," added Werling. "Her donation, a reflection of her dedication to helping others, dramatically contributes to our university's efforts to ensure affordable, quality education for all deserving students."

This remarkable gift exemplifies the spirit of the mission of the University of Evansville: to empower students to think critically, act bravely, serve responsibly, and live meaningfully in a dynamic and evolving world. Together, we are shaping futures and fostering positive change.
