Posted: Thursday, October 22, 2015

Derreck Kayongo, CNN Top Ten Hero of 2011, will be speaking at the University of Evansville on Monday, October 26. The hour-long event begins at 5:00 p.m., in Room 251, Eykamp Hall, in Ridgway University Center, followed by a reception. The lecture and reception are free and open to the public.

This event is part of the Institute for Global Enterprise’s Speakers Series and Social Innovation Week at the University: a week designed to expose students to stories of powerful change and to empower them to make a difference.

The topic of Kayongo’s lecture is “The Power of Small Ideas in the Land of Giants.” He will discuss how he overcame incredible personal hardship to become an innovator on the global stage by founding the Global Soap Project. The project recycles partially used soap from hotels into new soap for vulnerable populations in Africa, South Asia and the Caribbean. To date, the Global Soap Project has donated 600,000 bars of soap to over 20 countries.

The Institute for Global Enterprise is funded by a grant from Lilly Endowment Inc.
