UE President Tom Kazee to Wear Polar Bear Suit November 13 at 1:30 as finale to Green Energy Awareness Week

Posted: Thursday, November 12, 2015

This week, a team of UE students called Evolving Evansville Energy (E^3) hosted Green Energy Awareness Week with the goal of reducing overall campus energy consumption by at least 5 percent over the previous week.  President Kazee agreed that if the goal was met, he would don a polar bear suit and address the campus community. The team surpassed the five percent energy savings in just three days. Therefore, President Kazee will appear in the polar bear suit at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 13 on the East Terrace Lawn.

E^3 placed second in the recent Changemaker Challenge on campus hosted by the Institute for Global Enterprise. The team began the energy conservation initiative on UE’s campus and they have plans to focus efforts on the city of Evansville in the near future.

In addition to the campus-wide energy conservation challenge, students have provided information all week about green energy through presentations and events. Students were invited to try out equipment including the Kill-a-Watt  meter and an energy-generating pedal charger.

Dr. Kazee and students from the group will be available for comment tomorrow after the brief 1:30 p.m. campus address. The East Terrace Lawn is the grassy area located just outside of Ridgway University Center, labeled #27 on the campus map here.
