Visiting Costume Shop Manager
The Department of Theatre at the University of Evansville (UE) invites applications for a Visiting Costume Shop Manager to join our production faculty and staff. This role is the backbone of our costume department, serving as a pivotal mentor to our students and a key manager of our production operations.
Our program is defined by a conservatory-style training model; we are looking for a candidate who is as passionate about teaching advanced construction techniques as they are about managing the day-to-day excellence of a professional-grade costume shop. Key Responsibilities
The Visiting Costume Shop Manager balances academic instruction with intensive production management. Your main duties will include:
- Instructional Leadership: Co-teach Introductory Costume and Makeup (THTR 125), teach Costume Construction (THTR 226), and supervise three sections of Theatre Practicum each semester.
- Experiential Mentorship: Provide intensive, hands-on instruction in advanced construction, fitting procedures, garment alterations, patterning, draping, fabric selection, and shop safety.
- Shop Management: Oversee all costume shop operations, including inventory management, equipment maintenance, budget oversight, and production scheduling.
- Student Supervision: Mentor and supervise student workers, fostering a professional, educational, and safe shop environment.
- Production Oversight: Manage the logistics of costume storage, rentals, and fabrication, ensuring every production meets the high artistic standards of the Department of Theatre.
Required Qualifications
- Education: MFA in Costume Technology, Costume Design, or a related theatre discipline is preferred.
- Expertise: Proven professional experience in costume shop management.
- Pedagogical Ability: Demonstrated capacity to mentor students in a hands-on learning environment, combining technical expertise with effective teaching strategies.
- Production Management: Experience overseeing budgets, production schedules, and safe shop operations.
- Note: This is a one-year position. The successful candidate will be eligible to apply for the long-term, full-time position upon completion of a future search.
