Director, Emily M. Young Mental Health Clinic
The University of Evansville is seeking a strategic, compassionate, and experienced healthcare leader to serve as the Clinic Director for the Emily M. Young Mental Health Clinic.
This leadership position oversees all administrative and operational activities for the clinic, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, ethical, and evidence-based psychological services while maintaining strict compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards. The Clinic Director acts as the overall supervisor for the facility, managing the daily operations of the Clinic Coordinator, Physician Assistant, and support staff. (Note: If the successful candidate is a licensed mental health practitioner, then this role also assumes a direct clinical caseload, student supervision, and teaching responsibilities.)
Responsibilities Include:
Administrative Leadership
- Oversee the daily operations of the clinic.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures that promote efficient and effective operations.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, accreditation standards, and professional ethical guidelines.
- Participate in strategic planning, quality improvement initiatives, and program development.
- Monitor clinical productivity and operational performance.
- Manage the clinical’s operating budget, including revenue and expenses.
- Market the clinic’s services to the local community.
- Assist the Office of University Advancement with fundraising and grant applications.
- Directly supervise the Clinic Coordinator, including scheduling, administrative workflows, customer service, billing, provider credentialing, and front-office operations.
- Supervise work study and graduate assistants.
- Provide administrative supervision to the Physician Assistant (i.e., job performance and organizational responsibilities) as permitted by state law and within the Physician Assistant’s scope of practice, ensuring coordinated behavioral health services. Clinical supervision of the Physician Assistant will be provided by a licensed physician.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations, provide coaching, and support professional development for all clinic staff.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and patient-centered work environment.
- Monitor inventory of supplies and testing equipment and work with University departments to ensure the safety and comfort of the clinic.
- Complete University reports as requested.
- Provide hiring recommendations, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, coaching, scheduling, and disciplinary actions consistent with clinic policies.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure the quality, effectiveness, and ethical delivery of clinical services provided.
- Develop and implement evidence-based protocols and clinical policies.
- Review and monitor clinical documentation for quality and regulatory compliance.
- Address patient concerns and resolve clinical issues.
- Develop patient outcome measures and monitor patient satisfaction.
- Implement quality improvement initiatives as appropriate.
- Ensure appropriate coordination of care with referring providers and community resources.
- Promote a culture of safety, confidentiality, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, payer requirements, state licensing regulations, and University policies.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation standards.
- Participate in incident review, risk management activities, and corrective action planning when necessary.
If a licensed mental health practitioner, then:
- Maintain a clinical caseload as determined by clinic needs and task priorities.
- Provide consultation to trainees, staff, and other clinicians who need psychological treatment input regarding a patient.
- Manage clinical emergencies and provide clinical consultation to students and staff for suicide risk assessments and safety planning.
- Serve as an accessible clinical resource for students who require consultation regarding patient care, clinical decision-making, documentation, and professional conduct.
- Collaborate with academic leadership and faculty to address matters that affect clinical training and student progress.
- Provide direct clinical supervision to students.
- Teach (up to) one course per year.
- Review and address time-sensitive clinical matters to ensure continuity and safety of patient care during another practitioner’s absence.
- Make the necessary clinical decisions when other clinical staff are unavailable.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, health services, social work, counseling, or a related field.
- Two years of progressively responsible administrative or management experience in healthcare, behavioral health, human services, or a comparable setting.
- Demonstrated experience managing or coordinating healthcare operations, including personnel, scheduling, workflow, policies and procedures, and resource allocation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise employees and work effectively with multidisciplinary professionals.
- Knowledge of confidentiality, privacy, compliance, and risk-management requirements applicable to healthcare or other confidential service environments.
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in a relevant field.
- Three or more years of progressively responsible administrative or management experience in healthcare.
- Experience managing an outpatient healthcare or behavioral health clinic.
- Experience with budgeting, electronic health records, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and healthcare reimbursement.
- Experience working in a university or academic clinical environment.
- Professional licensure in a mental health or related healthcare discipline is preferred but not required for this position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Knowledge of outpatient behavioral health operations.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high standards of patient care.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and practice management software.
