Staff Accountant
The University of Evansville invites applications for the position of Staff Accountant. This full-time position is responsible for supporting the University's accounting operations through financial reporting, account reconciliations, grant accounting, fixed asset management, and various general accounting functions.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative accounting team that supports faculty, staff, students, and administrative departments across the University. The Staff Accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting sound financial stewardship of University resources.
Key Responsibilities
The Staff Accountant supports the Business and Finance Office through a variety of accounting and financial reporting functions.
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Record, monitor, and track capital assets and depreciation.
- Prepare, analyze, and process monthly journal entries.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements.
- Assist in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial records and reporting.
Systems & Process Support
- Maintain general ledger system access for University users.
- Support accounting operations across various institutional financial systems.
- Maintain software used for incoming non-student credit card payments, including ticketing, continuing education, and departmental transactions.
Grant & Special Fund Accounting
- Perform accounting and reporting tasks related to public and private grants.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with grant requirements and financial reporting obligations.
International & Auxiliary Accounting
Serve as liaison for monthly accounting activities related to Harlaxton College and assist with annual financial statement consolidation.
University Support & Reconciliation
- Review and reconcile University purchasing card transactions.
- Serve as a liaison to student government representatives and other student organizations regarding financial matters.
- Perform additional accounting and financial duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications

- Prior accounting experience, preferably in higher education, nonprofit, or public sector environments.
- Experience with grant accounting and financial reporting.
- Familiarity with financial reconciliations and fixed asset accounting.
