Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Psychology

The Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Evansville invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Psychology at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 1, 2027.

We seek applications from individuals looking to join a department with both undergraduate and graduate (a PsyD in Clinical Psychology) programs within an overall university community that encourages collaboration within and between departments. The University of Evansville is a private institution with a focus on active academics, close faculty-student relationships, in-class and out-of-class learning, and collaboration across disciplines. While we will consider candidates from any psychological background if they complement current departmental offerings, we are especially focused on those with a doctorate focused on Developmental or Cognitive Psychology. The candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate as well as graduate courses; including general survey courses (for example Lifespan Development or Cognitive Psychology) as well as advanced topic courses in those areas. Teaching responsibilities are dependent on the area of focus within psychology but generally will include some lower-level undergraduate offerings, upper-level undergraduate offerings (such as Adolescence or Memory), and graduate courses in the area of specialty. The standard teaching load is 18-21 credit hours per academic year.

The successful candidate should be prepared to contribute to a student-centered department that values effective teaching, mentoring, scholarship, applied learning, and engagement with the broader campus community. Therefore, in addition to classroom teaching, the successful candidate will:

  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students regarding academic, professional, and career topics;
  • Mentor undergraduate research through course-embedded projects, independent studies, and other relevant opportunities;
  • Maintain an active program of scholarship appropriate to a teaching-focused liberal arts   program, with opportunities to involve undergraduate and graduate students in scholarly activity when suitable;
  • Participate in graduate student dissertation committees;
  •  Participate in departmental and College service, including committee work.

Required qualifications include:

A Ph.D. or ABD (with degree completion expected by August 2027) in psychology; One or more years of college-level teaching experience as either instructor of record or teaching assistant; Willingness to teach a variety of undergraduate psychology courses; and Enthusiasm for mentoring and advising undergraduate students. Preferred qualifications include: Graduate training in cognitive or developmental psychology; Experience mentoring undergraduate students and involving them in research or other scholarly activities.

Screening of applications will begin on December 15, 2026, and continue until the position is filled. Interested applicants should contact Dr. Holly Skillman, chair of the search committee, at hs284@evansville.edu or send a cover letter, a CV, statements of teaching and research philosophy, and arrange to have three individuals send letters of reference by email (hs284@evansville.edu) or mail: Dr. Holly Skillman, Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, University of Evansville, 1800 Lincoln Ave, Evansville, IN 47722.
