Grants

Eligibility for Federal, State, and Institutional grants is determined by the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and amounts vary accordingly. In general, these grants are awarded in addition to your University of Evansville merit-based scholarships. Renewal requires annual completion of the FAFSA, continued demonstration of financial need, and achievement of satisfactory academic progress. By filing the FAFSA, students are automatically considered for all need-based grants. Unless stated otherwise, the student must be enrolled full-time and working on the first bachelor's degree.

Federal and state grants are determined annually by federal and state governments. Funding through these programs is subject to change based on federal and state budgets.

Aces Opportunity Grant

With the Aces Opportunity Grant, freshmen entering in the Fall of 2021 or after who meet the following criteria will not pay any tuition out of pocket. No special application is needed to be awarded the Aces Opportunity Grant. Learn more about the Aces Opportunity Grant.

Hoosier Aces Scholarship

Freshmen entering in the Fall of 2023 or after who meet the qualifying criteria will receive the Hoosier Aces Scholarship which in combination with other gift aid will cover tuition, fees, standard housing, and meals. No special application is needed to be awarded the Hoosier Aces Scholarship. It will automatically be offered to qualified Indiana students who meet the criteria. Freshmen entering in the Fall of 2026 who meet the qualifying criteria will receive the Hoosier Aces Scholarship which in combination with other gift aid will cover tuition, fees, and for students with on-campus residency, $10,000 toward directly billed housing and meal costs. No special application is needed to be awarded the Hoosier Aces Scholarship. It will automatically be offered to qualified Indiana students who meet the criteria. Federal Grants

Federal Pell Grant

A federal grant for students demonstrating high financial need. Available for full-time or part-time students. Federal regulations limit a student's use of the Federal Pell Grant to the equivalent of six years of full-time eligibility.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

Funds are limited, and students must be Pell-eligible to qualify. SEOG awards range from $100 to $4,000 a year. No additional application is necessary. In most cases, to qualify, the student must have a Student Aid Index (SAI) of 0 or lower as determined by the FAFSA.

State Grants

Frank O'Bannon Freedom of Choice Award

If you are an Indiana resident and demonstrate financial need, you may qualify for the Frank O'Bannon Grant. At private Indiana colleges, such as the University of Evansville, this is administered as the Freedom of Choice Award. At public Indiana colleges, it is administered as the Higher Education Award. The maximum Freedom of Choice Award (FOC) at the University of Evansville for 2025-26 is $10,600. Students must complete the FAFSA each year so that it is received by the federal processor no later than April 15. Students are eligible for a total of 8 semesters of state grant funds from all institutions attended. For more information regarding eligibility and renewal, visit State Financial Aid - By Program.

State grant amounts vary based upon the FAFSA SAI.

Students may receive notification from the State of Indiana regarding funding amounts. Private universities issue funding through Freedom of Choice (FOC). The State notification is not a separate or additional award.

21st Century Scholars Program

Initial eligibility determination and enrollment in this program is only available to Indiana students who enrolled during middle school. It is awarded to those who successfully fulfill their 21st Century Scholar pledge and meet State eligibility criteria. The 21st Century Scholarship replaces any previously-offered State grant award.

The award amount for students attending private colleges, such as UE, is determined annually by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE). The 2025-26 maximum award amount is $9,516. 21st Century Scholars do not receive full tuition at private colleges, as is available for enrollment in public colleges. Adult Student Grant

The Adult Student Grant is specifically designed to meet the unique needs of working adults by providing up to $2,000 in grant funds. This grant may be used toward tuition and regularly assessed fees. Students must complete the Adult Student Grant application through ScholarTrack and funds are awarded on a first come, first served basis.

Child of Deceased or Disabled Veteran

Provides up to $5,000 annually toward tuition and regularly assessed fees for children of deceased or disabled veterans at an Indiana private, non-profit college or university. This program funding is limited to a maximum of 124 credit hours and may be used at the undergraduate and professional degree level. Application through ScholarTrack required.

Child of Purple Heart Recipient or Wounded Veteran

Provides up to $5,000 annually toward tuition and regularly assessed fees for children of deceased or disabled veterans at an Indiana private, non-profit college or university. This program funding is limited to a maximum of 124 credit hours and may be used at the undergraduate and professional degree level. Application through ScholarTrack required.

National Guard Tuition Supplement Grant

Provides up to $5,000 annually toward tuition and regularly assessed fees at an Indiana private, non-profit college or university for eligible members of the Indiana Air and Army National Guard. Students can attend either full time or part time. Application through ScholarTrack required.

University Grants

The University has many grant programs with a variety of titles, some honoring the generous friends and alumni whose gifts have made this aid possible. UE need-based grants are available only for full-time, domestic, undergraduate students admitted through the Office of Undergraduate Admission.
