What was your favorite part of studying Creative Writing at UE?

What I loved most about UE was the sense of community. Your peers and your professors are there to challenge you, to make you work harder than you've ever worked before, but they're also there to support and encourage you when you start doubting yourself.

What did you experience in UE's CRW department that feels special/unique to our program?

I think what's special about UE's Creative Writing Department is just how genuinely the instructors care about you and your work. You're not just networking, you're building lasting relationships with the instructors in your department.

What was your favorite Creative Writing class and why?

It's so hard to choose my favorite class at UE. I can't think of any I didn't enjoy. I loved my Digital Media Writing class, because I felt like everything we were learning was so useful and current. My Humor Writing class was an absolute blast. However, I think my Short Story class in my last semester was probably my favorite. It felt like I'd finally found my voice and my groove, and I was comfortable enough within that class to really open up within my writing.

What are you up to now?

Right now, I'm pursuing an MFA in Fiction at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. I was lucky enough to receive a teaching assistantship, so I'm also studying pedagogy and working at the writing center in preparation for teaching an intro to composition class.

I'm working on a number of short stories right now, and I still write poetry and creative nonfiction. While at UE, I published an essay in Quaint Magazine and a short story in Agave Magazine. Just recently, I had a short story published in Pithead Chapel and I have an upcoming publication in Quiddity. All were pieces I wrote at UE and then continued to revise until I felt comfortable enough to send out.
