In their Ethics Capstone project Gabriella Federico and Joe Estes played a formative role in the development of Scholars for Syria, a university-wide initiative that brings together students, faculty, staff, administration and community members to "educate the community on how to understand the current conflict, resist sweeping generalizations, help alleviate the suffering of refugees, and better support our Syrian students and their families both here and abroad." A lecture series was put together which hundreds of people attended, fundraising initiatives began, a student club was instituted, continuing partnerships with community organizations were formed, and a platform was generated for public dialogue with our Syrian students.
