Posted: Friday, October 23, 2015

The Institute for Global Enterprise at the University of Evansville is hosting its annual Changemaker Challenge Competition on Thursday, October 29, 4:30–6:00 p.m., in Ridgway University Center, followed by a reception. The event is free and open to the public.

The Changemaker Challenge is dedicated to launching the world’s next wave of social entrepreneurs and innovators. It encourages the best and brightest UE students to compete in teams to solve the planet’s biggest challenges with innovative ideas for sustainable solutions and enterprises. The theme for this year’s event is “Evansville Strong: Local to Global.”

Judges from the community, including City of Evansville mayor Lloyd Winnecke, will evaluate the students and award a total of $3,500 to the top three finishers to help make their ideas a reality.

The five student team finalists in this year’s competition are working on these issues:

Preventing mental, physical and emotional abuse of Vanderburgh County youth in grades 6-12 by empowering them through education and confidence building.

Creating an awareness campaign that will help reduce UE’s impact on the environment.

Developing an all-in-one website that will make it easier and more efficient for the citizens and local government to communicate their ideas.

Promoting a healthier lifestyle for the Evansville community in order to combat one of the city's biggest issues: obesity.

Proposing the development of an Evansville area student-led clinic to serve those in need of medical attention while providing undergraduate and medical students with real world experience.
