- NURS A100: Introduction to Nursing (2 Credits)
- This introductory course is designed to prepare students for the academic rigor of the nursing curriculum. Emphasis is placed on reviewing foundational anatomy and physiology concepts, medical terminology, and mathematical skills essential for safe and effective nursing practice. Students will develop strategies for mastering complex nursing content, with a focus on test-taking techniques specific to nursing school exams, including NCLEX-style questions. Through interactive learning activities and practice assessments, students will strengthen their critical thinking skills, build confidence in applying scientific principles, and establish effective study habits.
- NURS A110: Foundations of the Nursing Profession (3 Credits)
- This course is designed to introduce students to the foundations of the professional role of the nurse. The course explores historical aspects, educational requirements, social integration, professionalism, legal and ethical guidelines, scope and standards of practice, system-based practice settings, for professional nursing practice.
- NURS A120: Communication and Caring (3 Credits)
- This course is designed to introduce students to the therapeutic modalities of nursing, with an emphasis on therapeutic communication. Concepts of caring including person-centered care, self-care, health promotion, inclusion, grief and education will be included.
- NURS A200: Physical Assessment (3 Credits)
- This course focuses on a systematic approach to a holistic assessment of individuals. Physical exam techniques are emphasized, along with growth and development concepts utilized to conduct both a comprehensive and focused health assessment.
- NURS A205: Pharmacology for Nursing (3 Credits)
- Course provides a foundation in the basic principles of pharmacology with emphasis on knowledge and interventions needed to maximize therapeutic effects and prevent or minimize adverse effects of drugs. Builds on the knowledge of physiology, chemistry, and psychology to understand the action of drugs in the human body. Prototype drugs used to teach basic principles of select drug classifications and drug action on biologic systems.
- NURS A210: Fundamentals of Nursing (3 Credits)
- This course introduces nursing students to the essential principles, skills, and concepts required to meet patients’ basic healthcare needs across the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on the nurse’s role in promoting health, preventing illness, and providing safe, evidence-based care. Students will learn about fundamental nursing concepts, including hygiene, mobility, nutrition, elimination, safety, comfort measures, infection control priority setting, and documentation. The nursing process serves as the framework for clinical decision-making, while therapeutic communication, cultural sensitivity, and ethical considerations are integrated throughout.
- NURS A220: Clinical Component of Fundamentals and Assessment (3 Credits)
- This course is designed to focus on the application of knowledge of nursing practice in healthy and vulnerable clients through hands-on care. These fundamental skills labs and clinical experiences provide a hands-on setting to practice beginning level nursing skills, physical assessment techniques and person-centered care.
- NURS A230: Foundations of Medication Administration with Lab (3 Credits)
- This course provides an introduction to the principles and skills necessary for safe and accurate medication administration in nursing practice. Students will explore the nurse’s role in pharmacological care, including dosage calculation, medication preparation, administration techniques, and documentation. Emphasis is placed on the “rights” of medication administration, prevention of errors, patient education, and adherence to legal, ethical, and safety standards. Through a combination of classroom instruction and simulated lab practice, students will develop skills in administering medications via through various routes.
- NURS A300: Medical-Surgical Nursing I (3 Credits)
- This course introduces students to the principles and practices of medical-surgical nursing with a primary focus on perioperative care. Students will learn to provide safe, evidence-based nursing care for patients experiencing illness as well as before, during, and after surgical procedures. Topics can include surgical risk assessment, patient preparation, intraoperative safety measures, postoperative monitoring, pain management, wound care, infection prevention, and patient education.
- NURS A310: Clinical Component of Medical Surgical I (3 Credits)
- This course introduces students to the principles and practices of medical-surgical nursing with a primary focus on perioperative care. The nursing process serves as the framework for clinical decision-making, with emphasis on collaboration within the surgical team and effective communication with patients and families. Concepts are reinforced through simulation, skills lab practice, and supervised clinical experiences, preparing students to deliver competent and compassionate care throughout the surgical continuum.
- NURS A320: Medical Surgical Nursing II (3 Credits)
- This course builds on foundational medical-surgical nursing concepts, emphasizing the integration of all body systems in the care of adult patients. Students will apply critical thinking, clinical judgment, and evidence-based practice to manage acute and chronic conditions. Course content includes assessment, pathophysiology, and interventions for cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, renal, endocrine, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and integumentary disorders, as well as immune and hematologic conditions.
- NURS A330: Clinical Component of Medical Surgical II (4 Credits)
- This course builds on foundational medical-surgical nursing concepts, emphasizing the integration of all body systems in the care of complex adult patients. Students will apply critical thinking, clinical judgment, and evidence-based practice to manage acute and chronic. Learning experiences incorporate high-fidelity simulation, case-based learning, and supervised clinical practice.
- NURS A340: NCLEX Success Strategies I (1 Credit)
- This course is designed to apply nursing knowledge to provide person-centered mental health care for clients across systems. An emphasis is placed on ethical practice, abuse and neglect, behavioral interventions, substance abuse disorder, crisis intervention, grief/loss, and mental health concepts.
- NURS A360: Community and Public Health (3 Credits)
- Focuses on individuals, families, and groups within the community. Emphasis is on preventative care and chronic disease management on both an individual-level and system-level. Examines health of the community including vulnerable populations, health education principles, communicable diseases, epidemiology, environmental health hazards, disaster management, policy advocacy, and emerging technologies.
- NURS A370: Clinical Component of Mental Health and Community Nursing (3 Credits)
- Clinical course includes instruction and practice with the modalities of counseling, teaching, and social support with individuals and groups. Focuses on the client and family with acute or chronic problems in mental health and vulnerable groups within the community who require health promotion and/or suffer chronicity. Clinical practice experiences are provided in simulation and a variety of community settings.
- NURS A400: Maternal-Child Nursing (3 Credits)
- This course focuses on the unique needs of clients and families in the childbearing stage and the pediatric population. Students will apply critical thinking, clinical judgment, and evidence-based practice to integrate care for this specialized population.
- NURS A410: Nursing Care of the Complex Client (3 Credits)
- This course focuses on individuals and families who are in transition due to complex acute or chronic illness problems. Students will apply critical thinking, clinical judgment, and evidence-based practice to manage acute and chronic conditions affecting multiple systems simultaneously. Special focus is placed on the interrelationships between body systems, prioritization of care, and coordination within the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- NURS A420: Clinical Care of the Complex, Maternity and Pediatric Clients (4 Credits)
- Clinical course includes concepts of care for individuals and families with complex acute or chronic illness problems. Instruction and practice in the modalities of direct care, teaching, counseling focusing on the maternal-child population are also included. Special focus is placed on the interrelationships between body systems, prioritization of care, and coordination within the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- NURS A430: Leadership in Nursing (3 Credits)
- Focuses on the principles of leadership and management as they are practiced in nursing. Concepts of organizational behavior and various leadership styles and roles are emphasized along with delegation, advocacy, change agency, power, and politics. Simulation and integrative experiences are used in this course to enhance conceptual learning.
- NURS A440: Evidence-Based Practice Nursing and Capstone (3 Credits)
- This course extends focuses on evidence-based practice by examining the societal and global health issues related to nursing and the practice of research in the development of the body of nursing knowledge. Primary emphasis on the nurse as a consumer of research findings while critically examining health issues that have an impact on individual consumers, health care providers, and society as a whole. Scholarly paper and presentation are required.
- NURS A450: NCLEX Success Strategies II (2 Credits)
- Prepares the student for the NCLEX Examination by reviewing test taking skills, test question formats, and essential knowledge for professional nursing practice.
