Disability Services Counselor
The Department of Student Life invites applications for a full-time, 10-month contracted appointment as a Disability Services Counselor in the Office of Counseling and Disability Services. The starting date for this position will be August 1, 2022 and will renew annually. This position fulfills two roles in the office: mental health counseling and provision of disability services and accommodations.
In a mental health capacity, the Disability Services Counselor will join three other mental health counselors in a dynamic team setting to provide individual and group counseling to a diverse student population. The Counselor will make assessments for mental health topics that include adjustment issues, depression, anxiety, grief/loss, and substance abuse issues, as well as triage and evaluate mental health crises to provide short-term, goal-focused therapy.
For Disability Services, the Counselor will be responsible for reviewing documentation and determining appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities that include psychiatric, cognitive, sensory, medical, physical, and temporary conditions. The Counselor will work closely with the Coordinator of Disability Services as well as faculty and other campus departments to ensure accommodations are provided. Additionally, the Counselor will work with the Coordinator to develop programming to educate the campus community regarding the needs of students with disabilities.
Educational and credentialing requirements include MSW and LSW; LCSW preferred with minimum of 1-year experiences. Advanced clinical counseling skills are needed.
