Student Senate and Assembly
Overview
The Student Government Association conducts its representative and legislative work through two primary bodies: the Student Senate and the Assembly of Student Organizations. Together, these bodies ensure academic representation, organizational accountability, and structured dialogue between students and University leadership. Meetings of both bodies are open to members of the Student Association.

Student Senate
The Student Senate serves as the legislative body of the SGA. Senators represent academic governance units, at-large members of the student body, and designated student constituencies to ensure broad and balanced representation across campus.
The Senate is responsible for:
- Considering and passing legislation
- Approving the annual SGA budget
- Reviewing resolutions
- Overseeing governance matters
- Facilitating campus-wide dialogue
Senate meetings follow the most recent edition of Robert’s Rules of Order to ensure structured and fair deliberation.

Assembly of Student Organizations
The Assembly of Student Organizations represents all SGA-recognized student organizations and supports transparency in matters of funding and recognition.
Organizations are classified as funded Assembly Organizations or recognized Non-Assembly Organizations. Funded organizations participate in monthly meetings to maintain funding eligibility.
The Assembly focuses on:
- Approving the annual SGA budget
- Organizational standing
- Funding eligibility
- Communication with student organizations
Assembly meetings are conducted under Robert’s Rules of Order.
How Students Engage
Students may engage with SGA by:
- Contacting their academic or constituency Senator
- Attending Senate meetings and town halls
- Serving as a representative for their student organization
- Submitting proposals or concerns through established procedures
