Clara Wallace

Class of 2013, Music Management, Minor Business Management

“[Backstage] I get a deep feeling of pride and love that is wholly unique as I watch performances unfold. It's a privilege to contribute in my small way to the magic on stage.” Based in Washington, DC, Clara is an Assistant Artistic Administrator for the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO). Part of her job includes working as a point person for the needs of guest artists including Kendrick Lamar, Boyz II Men, jazz ensemble Snarky Puppy, and R&B vocalist Ledisi, among many others.

Born and raised in the Midwest, Clara knew early on she wanted to have a career in music, but did not want to perform for a living. The business side of music fascinated her, therefore music managements seemed like a logical fit. It was through experience at an Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra internship through the University of Evansville that Clara knew she truly enjoyed the field and wanted music management to be her career. Clara feels that participating in this internship while at the University of Evansville she gained a valuable peek inside of the world of nonprofit arts management and quality experience to add to her resume.

Clara's favorite part of the University of Evansville was how personalized each student's experience could be. She felt like her professors saw her as an individual and not anything less. The caring and supportive community at the University of Evansville shaped Clara into who she is today. With a driven work ethic, Clara was offered a summer staff position her senior year of college with the Aspen Music Festival and School in Colorado. During this time she sent out several applications for a position in music management ultimately landing the position with the NSO.

Washington, DC has many opportunities for cultural growth and entertainment, and Clara enjoys taking advantage of those opportunities in her free time. She also enjoys paddle boarding on the Potomac, yoga, and spending time with her friends.
