Assistant Director, Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Assistant Director, Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion develops and implements diversity and inclusion programming for the University of Evansville. The Assistant Director also builds a strong rapport with campus community members, students in the Fellows Scholar Program, and advances positive and effective advocacy for culturally diverse students.

The Assistant Director’s primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with identifying ways to further the profile of the Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, improving existing programs and supporting the creation of new programs, collaborating with student organizations and other internal/ external constituencies to provide activities and exchanges that engage diverse perspectives, supervising student workers and interns for the Center for DEI, and partnering with the campus community in addressing issues related to under-represented and marginalized students.

Additional duties include collaborating to provide leadership in the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of programs and events to promote strategic goals of the University, assessing student needs and collaborating with student organizations, student leaders and Student Life to help implement year-round additive opportunities regarding multicultural matters, co-creating response-based programming for significant campus climate issues, advocating for students from diverse cultural backgrounds on matters related to their academic success and social development, developing co-curricular cultural programming events on campus that intentionally connect students, faculty, and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds to celebrate diversity, encourage dialogue, increase understanding, and reconciliation

The minimum requirements for the position include a bachelor’s degree in student affairs, college student development, higher education administration, or related social sciences, humanities, or diversity, equity, and inclusion-related field. Additional minimum requirements include the ability to communicate (written and verbal) in English and Spanish effectively. Successful applicants must be familiar with predominantly white institutions and surrounding communities and the experiences of historically underrepresented populations within these contexts.
