Acute Care Residency Program Curriculum

Didactic Work

  • The didactic education will be scheduled for 8 hours weekly. There may be a mix of lectures, videos, observation, self-study, and discussion. Distance education may be completed via Medbridge Online Education, DVDs, audio conferencing, journal club meetings via video conferencing, webinars, and/or other website education sites pertaining to physical therapy education.

Teaching

  • The resident will teach as a lab instructor for Doctor of Physical Therapy Students at the University of Evansville in the Multiple Systems/Acute Care course during the Fall Semester.

Research

  • Each resident will be required to demonstrate a meaningful contribution to research. This could be completed by assisting with any research currently happening in the department, a case report, developing your own research question and pursuing and answer, or any other means deemed appropriate by the resident and the research advisor.

Community Service

  • The resident will also complete community service with the pro-bono physical therapy clinic, Ace CARE, which is run by the DPT students at the University of Evansville. Our resident serves as a licensed volunteer for the ACErcise branch of this program on Tuesday evenings.  This branch provides an exercise fitness class for individuals with neurologic disorders. The resident will have the opportunity to provide mentoring and assist students with patient handling skills.
