Acute Care Physical Therapy Residency Program Goals and Learning Objectives

Program Goals

Effective learning program:

  • Residents will achieve >80% average on written exams over the year.
  • Surgery/Procedure observations opportunity
  • Access to Hospital and University Libraries

Knowledgeable clinical skill:

  • Competent to proficient ratings on Live Patient Exams.
  • Monthly Journal Club Meetings (September – May) attendance
  • Completion of research
  • Grand Rounds Presentations

Interdisciplinary focus:

  • Opportunity to interact with nursing staff, physicians, occupational therapists, pharmacists, dieticians, case management, and other ancillary staff through multi-disciplinary rounding.
  • Use of clinical skills software in curriculum

Learning Objectives

Communication:

  • Develop skills by giving presentations.
  • Interprofessional communication opportunities

Develop clinical education skills:

  • Teaching at University level Doctor of Physical Therapy program
  • Experience as a CI in collaboration with a clinical mentor

Contribution to Society:

  • Community Outreach opportunities
  • Treating patients in a pro-bono clinic
